Is this correct?

Question

I have student loans and am under the impression that I am not allowed to go for Umra or Hajj until my debt is payed off. Is this correct? This would be my first Umra or Hajj. I am also inquiring if the ruling changes based on who pays if I attend. If someone pays on my behalf, am I permitted to go? What if I pay for myself?

Answer

All praise is for Allah and there is no tawfiq or good except by Him. It is permissible for you to perform Hajj or Umra with the debt you described, regardless of who pays for it. May Allah give you tawfiq. Allah knows best what is correct.
