Question
Is doing the zaghrouta/zagareet for a woman, otherwise known as ululation, prohibited when done in settings where non-mahram men can hear it?
Answer
All praise is for Allah and there is no tawfiq or good except by Him. It is permissible for a woman to perform what is known in Arabic as the zaghrouta or the zagareet (ululation) around non-mahram men, as long as there is no fear of fitna. If there is a fear of fitna, then it would be impermissible. This is mentioned by the Shafi'i scholar Al-Shibramilsi in his super-commentary on Nihayatu Al-Muhtaj (6/187). Allah knows best what is correct.
